Luke’s Running the Great South Run for the Rowans Hospice

“I’m running the race in memory of my Great Uncle Alan who died suddenly after a short battle with cancer in 2018. He lived a long, healthy and fun-filled life with his wife Bette. Alan went into the hospital with a bad back and in less than two weeks he sadly passed away.
“Uncle Alan spent his last days at the Rowans Hospice in Waterlooville. He passed away in complete comfort thanks to the amazing care he was provided during his stay there.
“Alan was a plumber by trade but also spent time in the forces and travelled the world. He loved football and was a keen follower of Gosport Borough and Pompey. Another of his interests was local history and because of this he used to be a regular visitor to the old Boatbreakers office in the Gosport Library building. The archives he used to go and browse used to be next door so he’d always pop in for a tea and a chat.

“My family clubbed together last year to get the main stand at Gosport Borough renamed in his honour. And we are happy to see that this has remained into the current season.
“I spend most of my time in the Boatbreakers office sat dreaming up content for the site. In my spare time I do play football but running definitely isn’t my game. Size is on my side as luckily I am built like Mo Farah. But it will definitely be a challenge to get around.
