The calendar has turned, and with it comes that annual burst of motivation to declutter, simplify, and set sail toward new goals.

Recently, the Boatbreakers Video team was called to action after a devastating report from Portsmouth Harbour. A much-loved Hallberg-Rassy 42, a 15-tonne Swedish-built legend known for its blue-water pedigree, had suddenly and unexpectedly sunk overnight on its mooring.

It's a familiar promise echoed across marinas worldwide: "This year, we’ll really use her." We envision clear wakes and the thrill of the open water, dismissing the notion that our treasured vessel could ever become a permanent fixture in the marina.

The call came in, familiar in its regret: another cheap project that never quite got off the ground. This time, it was a small Hurley yacht tucked away in Dell Quay, near Chichester.

We get it. You love the idea of boating, the freedom of the open water, and the romance of owning a vessel. But somewhere along the line, that dream boat turned into a financial anchor, constantly dragging on your wallet.
