Compassion and Capability: The Vancouver 27 Recovery at Parkstone Yacht Club

The Vancouver 27 is a legendary blue-water cruiser, designed for serious offshore sailing and admired for its “go-anywhere” attitude. However, even the most rugged vessels can be sidelined by the realities of life. Recently, the Boatbreakers team visited the prestigious Parkstone Yacht Club in Poole to collect a Vancouver 27. She had seen her long-term restoration project come to an unexpected halt.

A Difficult Decision Made Easy

The owner had spent years dedicated to this vessel, but sadly, a turn in health meant that completing the project was no longer possible. After attempting to sell the boat on the private market with no success, a common hurdle for unfinished projects, the owner turned to Boatbreakers. We understand that saying goodbye to a boat under these circumstances is more than just a transaction; it’s the closing of a chapter. Our goal was to make the process as dignified and stress-free as possible.

Uncovering the Hidden Treasures

While the hull was ready for retirement, the boat was far from empty. As our team began the decommissioning process at Parkstone, we discovered several “hidden treasures” that perfectly align with our commitment to the circular marine economy. These included:

  • A Yanmar Marine Engine: Known for their reliability, this unit was in surprisingly good condition and will be a fantastic find for another sailor looking for a repower.

  • Three Lewmar Self-Tailing Winches: These are premium pieces of deck hardware. Because they are built to last, we’ve already set them aside to be refurbished and sold on.

The Boatbreakers Promise

By choosing professional recycling, the owner ensured that the high-quality components he invested in will help keep other Vancouvers, and similar cruisers on the water. The boat was loaded efficiently from the club’s yard and transported back to our facility for final processing.

If you have a project in Poole or the surrounding Dorset area that you can no longer manage, let Boatbreakers handle the heavy lifting. We pride ourselves on finding value where others see waste.
