The Boatbreakers team headed across the border to Penarth Marina in Wales for the collection of a Jaguar 27 yacht. This particular recovery presented an immediate challenge: the boat had already had its heavy fin keel removed, meaning it was essentially a lightweight hull ready for transport. This made the lifting logistics easier, but required extra careful strapping to secure the unusual load onto the bed of our Hiab truck.

Unlike most recoveries where a preliminary visit is standard, for this specific job, we opted to rely on the existing information and photos, deciding to wait and see what items were still onboard upon arrival. This approach added a layer of mystery to the salvage operation.

What’s left?

Crucially, the initial images of the Jaguar 27 had shown desirable features. Specifically a set of high-value, modern self-tailing winches. Given the nature of a boat disposal, we generally anticipate that owners might remove easily marketable items like winches beforehand. We hadn’t seen any images of the interior so we had no clue what to expect.

However, upon accessing the boat at Penarth Marina, the team was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the hull prepped perfectly for the lift. But the expected items were still in place. The self-tailing winches were right where the photos indicated! This bonus find significantly boosted the potential salvage value.

The team swiftly and safely lifted the keel-less yacht onto the truck and secured the load. Ensuring a smooth return journey. This successful recovery proved one thing.
