Welcome to the Breaking Boats Blog

Every scrap boat has a story, even when it reaches the end of the line. Welcome to the official blog of Boatbreakers, where we document the final voyages of the vessels (and their backstories) when they come through our Boat Scrapyard.

This blog offers a behind-the-scenes look at the reality of boat disposal and marine recycling in the UK. From recovering abandoned projects rotting in garden driveways to dealing with insurance write-offs and storm-damaged yachts, we tackle the jobs that keep our waterways and properties clear.

We also highlight the logistics of complex recoveries and the importance of environmental responsibility. We also showcase the “diamonds in the rough” the salvaged engines, masts, and vintage hardware that we rescue and recirculate to keep other boats afloat. Dive in to see our latest projects, unique finds, and the honest side of the marine industry.

  • Latest Yacht Disposal: 37ft Scrap Yacht Removal

It's not an unusual sight to see boats in people's front gardens, especially on the South Coast. However, when the boat is a 37ft fin keel yacht it becomes quite an imposing landmark. The boat had been in her current position since 2006 when she was taken out of the water and onto the stand so her owner could carry out repair works to her.

  • Boatbreakers News - Classic Wooden Boat Scrapped

  • Boatbreakers News - Boatbreakers Information

Boatbreakers may soon be involved in a British/French study in disposing of end of life boats. We were asked to write some text outlining what it is we do as a busniness. Whilst we wait to hear if the study will get the official go ahead we think the information in the statement might be interesting to read.

  • Boatbreakers News - Abandoned Boat on Eastney Beach

In 2015 we were contacted by a local marina that had a boat on a mooring which was in a sorry state. It was a catamaran that had clearly been neglected by her owners who had subsequently stopped paying their mooring fees.

  • Boatbreakers News - FAQs - Boatbreakers Costs to Consider

A common question we get asked it why we have to charge you the customer to scrap your boat. First of all, there are times where we can take boats on free of charge if they have recoverable items we can recover our costs from. But back to the question, the answer is simply that there are costs that we can't avoid, and neither could you if you followed the same process we do.

  • Boatbreakers News - Abandoned Boats

As I was writing this post we actually had a fresh enquiry in that was exactly what this post is about. A boat in a marina near London has clearly been left un-maintained for too long and has now started to sink. This has made a tricky boat removal even trickier as now the boat has to be pumped out and re-floated.
