Boat Recovery in Fareham: Salvaging a Sunken Pandora 19

When a vessel sinks at her berth, quick action is essential to prevent long-term damage, navigation hazards, and fuel leaks. The Boatbreakers team was recently called out to Fareham. After a classic Pandora 19 met an unfortunate end at her pontoon mooring.

The trouble likely started with a rising tide. We suspect the small cruiser got caught under the edge of the pontoon as the water rose. Pinning her down and allowing the incoming tide to flood the hull. By the time the water receded, the Pandora was completely submerged. Credit goes to the proactive owner, who took advantage of low tide to pump out the water. He got the hull floating again before calling in reinforcements.

Away for Disposal

Once she was back above water, our tow boat stepped in to take over. We secured the Pandora 19 and towed her safely from the Fareham mooring to a nearby local yard equipped for haul-out and loading. From there, our transport rig was ready to hoist her out and haul her away for disposal.

Sadly, for a 19-foot boat of modest market value, the extensive water damage made her an economical write-off. There was very little on board in the way of salvageable gear. Meaning full recycling and disposal was the only viable path forward.

Insurance Pay Out

While it is always tough to see a vessel reach the end of her journey. The outcome worked out as best as it could for everyone involved. The sailing club cleared a major hazard from their pontoon. Freeing up the space for active members, and the owner was able to move forward with a payout from their insurance company.
