Berkshire Boat Recovery: Recycling a Garden Trailer Sailer the Easy Way
From the Front Garden to a Final Voyage: A Berkshire Trailer Sailer Recovery
Not every boat recovery involves a bustling marina or a tidal harbour. Sometimes, our work takes us to the quiet suburbs. Where a vessel has become more of a local landmark than a seaworthy craft. Recently our Boatbreakers team travelled to Berkshire to collect a small trailer sailer. She had traded the open waves for a permanent spot on a front garden.
A Life Well-Lived
This little yacht had a long and proud history of sailing with her owner. For years, she provided countless memories on the water. But as time passed, she found herself spending more seasons on land. Eventually, she became a fixture of the front garden. A nostalgic reminder of past adventures.
However, the owner realised that after years of exposure to the elements without maintenance. It was time to clear the space and ensure the boat was handled responsibly. Rather than letting her become an eyesore or a hazard, the family called in our Boatbreakers team to manage her final journey.
The “Clip-On and Go” Collection
One of the biggest variables in a garden recovery is the condition of the trailer. Often, after sitting on grass or gravel for years, tires perish and bearings seize. Luckily, this Berkshire boat had been well-supported. Upon inspection, our team found the trailer to be in usable, roadworthy condition.
This made for a refreshingly simple extraction. After checking the pressures and ensuring the hitch was secure, we were able to “clip on and go.” There’s a certain satisfaction in a recovery that goes this smoothly. Allowing us to clear the driveway in record time.
Sustainable Small Boat Recycling
Now back at our yard, the trailer sailer will be decommissioned. We will strip any salvageable deck hardware, such as cleats or blocks, to help keep other small cruisers on the water. Even a “garden boat” has a role to play in the circular marine economy.
