Abandoned project boats can quickly turn into major liabilities for marine facilities. This was certainly the case for a Simplicity 25 sitting forgotten in a Southampton yard. Originally purchased on eBay with high hopes of restoration. The owner gradually lost enthusiasm for the project and eventually disappeared entirely.
Left neglected on the hard standing. The 25-foot cruiser spent years collecting rainwater and racking up substantial storage debt. With no sign of the owner returning and valuable space tied up indefinitely, the yard management finally took action to clear the debt, reclaim the bay, and send the vessel on her way.

That is when the Boatbreakers team was called in to handle the removal. Unlike typical glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) boats, the Simplicity 25 featured a solid steel hull. This made the recycling process straightforward and sustainable, allowing 100% of the metal hull to be processed and recycled.
During the initial teardown, our team also discovered some excellent salvage gear on board. Highlights included a high-quality self-steering windvane system. Which was carefully decommissioned and restored. It has since been fitted onto another sailor’s vessel to live a second life at sea.
Ultimately, the primary goal of the job was achieved. The Southampton yard successfully freed up a prime storage berth to rent to a paying customer. And another abandoned vessel was safely processed.
