The Boatbreakers team journeyed to a quiet countryside garden near Wolverhampton for a sensitive clearance job. A family needed to quickly prepare the property for sale following the passing of a loved one. The task was removing an old wooden GP14 dinghy that had seen better days.

Upon inspection, the age and exposure were evident. The GP14 was visibly rotten in several places, so much so that sections of the hull could be pulled apart by hand. This degree of deterioration, combined with the state of the accompanying gear, made our decision clear. The trailer the dinghy was sitting on was completely unroadworthy, with both wheels needing total replacement, ruling out any possibility of towing it away.

On Site GP14 Dismantling

Given the boat’s condition and the logistical challenges, the most efficient and practical solution was an on-site dismantle. Working quickly and carefully, we proceeded to cut the dinghy up into manageable pieces. These sections of decayed wood and fibreglass were then efficiently loaded into our large van. Although it was a freezing cold morning deep in the countryside. We were lucky enough to have clear blue skies and sunshine, which made the mission a pleasant one.

Potential Re-use

Despite the GP14 being scrap, we salvaged the structural components of the trailer. We hope to be able to sell the body of the road trailer and the separate launching trolley to another boat owner who can fit new wheels and put them back into use. The swift and tidy operation left the garden completely clear, much to the relief of the family, who were delighted with the swift turnaround necessary to finalise the house sale.
