Westerly Pentland Retired from Beaulieu
The picturesque setting of Bucklers Hard provides a stark contrast to the logistical reality of end-of-life vessel disposal. Recently, the Boatbreakers team coordinated the collection of a Westerly Pentland. Collected from this historic location on the Beaulieu River, bringing a swift conclusion to an owner’s difficult decision.
The operation began on the water. As the vessel was situated on a swing mooring and lacked reliable propulsion, it required a collaborative effort to bring her in. The Bucklers Hard marina team deployed their work boat. Expertly towing the yacht from the river mooring into the travel lift dock, ready for extraction.
Decision to Scrap
This specific job highlights a common dilemma for boat owners. The decision to recycle the vessel was driven by a “perfect storm” of financial and mechanical hurdles. With mooring fee renewals looming, the owner faced a strict deadline. Compounding the issue was the mechanical state of the boat; she required a complete re-engining. In the current brokerage market, a Westerly Pentland requiring such significant investment is often a potential “slow seller.” The owner calculated that the cost of the repair, combined with ongoing storage fees during a lengthy sales process, simply outweighed the boat’s residual value.
The Final Journey
To facilitate the removal, Boatbreakers dispatched a specialized low loader to the site. The marina staff lifted the vessel onto the transport, and once secured, the boat was removed to be responsibly recycled. This clean break allowed the owner to escape the cycle of fees, ensuring the boat was disposed of ethically rather than being abandoned.
