Westerly Centaur Collected From Truro For Yacht Disposal

Westerly Centaur in Truro
The Boatbreakers team were down in Cornwall to collect and dispose of a Westerly Centaur. The boat was located in a yard near Truro. Her owner had pre-stripped the boat before we collected so there wasn’t many items to salvage. If you’re searching for the much loved stanchion bases from a Centaur I’m afraid to say we didn’t get them off of this one.
On our advice he had found a buyer for the engine which helped to offset some of the disposal costs. It’s always nice to help boat owners lighten the financial load of moving on their end of life boat. From first confirmation that the owner would like to go ahead to disposal was just over a week.

Straightforward Cornish Collection
Over the years we have scrapped a number of Westerly Centaur yachts and they are always straightforward to transport. Because the majority of them seem to be Bilge keel boats they sit comfortably on our Hiab truck. In this case the yard she was in loaded her onto the truck for us.
We believe the boat was sent to us for scrap as there was damage to her hull around the keels. Instead of paying for the costly repairs on the boat the owner decided to take the option of disposal. Sadly many boat owners will choose the scrap option rather than save a boat. Mainly due to the eye watering cost involved of fixing and storing them.

He also manages all of our enquiries passing them to whoever in the team is the best suited to deal with it. We are teaching Luke how to drive a motorboat or sail a yacht so while he’s learning we suggest you keep out of the Solent!
