Sunken Boat Recovery on the River Hamble: Salvage, Transport, and Engine Revival
Resurrected from the River: A Hamble Recovery Success Story
At Boatbreakers, we see boats in all states of repair, but there is always a particular sense of urgency when the word “sunken” is involved. Recently, our team was called down to a yard on the River Hamble.
The Salvage Operation
The vessel in question had unfortunately slipped beneath the surface while on her mooring. Thanks to the swift professional response of the local marina team, she was successfully re-floated and brought to the yard. However, once a boat has taken a swim in salt water, the clock starts ticking.
We dispatched one of our specialist recovery drivers with a boat trailer to meet the marina team. The boat was hoisted from the Hamble waters and settled onto our trailer. Ready for her final journey back to the Boatbreakers yard for decommissioning and recycling.
Engine in a Pickle
Usually, when an engine spends hours submerged, it’s a write-off. If they haven’t been “pickled” it can mean there’s no hope. However, we never like to see good machinery go to waste. As soon as the boat arrived at our HQ, our engineers got to work on trying to save it.
After an intensive “post-immersion” service, flushing the systems, cleaning the electrics, and replacing the fluids—we held our breath and turned the key. To our delight, she fired right up.
Sustainability in Action
This is exactly why we do what we do. While the hull will be responsibly recycled, the engine has been saved from the scrap heap. Our goal now is to find this unit a new home where it can power another boat for years to come.
If you have a boat that’s reached the end of the line, or one that’s decided to take an unscheduled dive. Get in touch with the Boatbreakers team. We’re here to help keep the Hamble (and your conscience) clear!
