Small Fishing Boat Disposal

Not every boat that comes through our gates is a sprawling cruising yacht. Sometimes it’s a quick, local job right on our doorstep. That was the case recently when the Boatbreakers team was called into Portsmouth to collect a small fishing boat.

We weren’t entirely sure of the exact reason the owner decided it was time to part ways with her. But as soon as we got our hands on the vessel, the answer became pretty clear. The decks and flooring had gone dangerously soft, pointing to severe internal rot and structural fatigue underneath.

Cheap Weekend Project

In typical fashion, as soon as we posted a quick teaser of the little boat on our social media channels, our inbox lit up. We had a flood of messages from enthusiastic followers asking if they could buy her, fix her up, or take her on as a cheap weekend project.

While we love seeing old boats get a second chance. There’s a serious side to what we do. When a vessel reaches a point where structural integrity is compromised. Like rotted decks that could easily give way on the water. Passing it along to a buyer looking for a bargain can be a recipe for disaster. Far too often, “cheap projects” like this get sold, turn out to be far too expensive or complex to fix. Then end up dumped or abandoned in another boatyard, creek, or public slipway a few years down the line.

At Boatbreakers, our responsibility isn’t just to clear space. It’s to ensure unviable vessels are safely taken off the market for good.

Our team brought the fishing boat back to our facility, where she was systematically broken down. Any reusable metal hardware and fittings were set aside, and the compromised hull was sent for proper, responsible recycling and disposal.

Prevent Further Abandonment

By taking unseaworthy craft out of circulation, we help keep our local waterways clean and prevent future abandonment headaches for harbour authorities and land owners.
