Boatbreakers were in Nottingham to remove a Shetland 18 from a customer’s driveway. The boat had been up on blocks in a garden for a number of years. Judging by the pictures we had been sent the boat hadn’t seen the water or even been touched for quite a while. This can often be the case once a boat is in a garden and no longer on a trailer. Even getting the boat back to the water becomes hard work.
We were confident that we could send one of the team with a trailer and reverse up onto the boat. Removing the blocks as we went. This approach also removed the need for sending a Hiab truck. Which ultimately would mean the costs increased for the owner. Our team will always try where we can to keep everything as affordable as possible.
Old Outboard Spares
That being said it was definitely a more tricky way of loading the boat. After an hour or so we had the Shetland 18 safely on our trailer, strapped down and ready to go. There was an old outboard in her but there wasn’t really any value to her other than spares.
The Shetland’s interior wasn’t great and you could see it hadn’t been touched for a while. We are certain that the owner will be loving not having to look at his unfinished project anymore. It’s often a big relief for the owner’s partners too as the boats are often the target of many marital disagreements.
