Neglected Javelin 30 Collected from a Portsmouth Mooring
Neglected Javelin 30 in Portsmouth Harbour
We were asked by an owner of a neglected Javelin 30 yacht to remove his boat from a mooring in Portsmouth Harbour. The boat wasn’t in great condition and we believe the people who run the moorings had made it clear the boat needed to go. She was on a mid-streem pontoon mooring near Portchester. So we sent the tow boat up to bring her back to a yard for lifting onto transport.
During the initial discussions with the owner we had seen the Javelin 30 had a few salvageable items on board. The main items we were interested in were the self tailing winches and the windlass.
Missing Winches
On the morning of collection our team went down to the yard to meet the tow boat pulling her in. As we got closer to the Javelin 30 we noticed something seemed to be missing. Both self tailing winches and the windlass were gone. This can be a common occurrence when we organise boat disposal jobs. People can hear the boat is going for scrap and take it upon themselves to remove the items. There were still a few items on board like a spray hood and the some internal fittings. But in general the boat was in a poor state.
It was clear this Javelin 30 had been a floating bird hangout for some time. Sadly she was definitely well beyond economical repair. Thankfully the owner had taken action before the boat had deteriorated further and sunk. The boat yard team even remarked it was nice to help get rid of another eyesore from the area.
Cheaper to Scrap
If you have an old boat that’s come to the end of her useable life then get in contact. We can usually have a boat collected within a fortnight of confirmation. Plus it’s nearly always cheaper to scrap the boat rather than fix her up or even just store for another season.
