Sea Cracker 33 Collection

Taking on a classic yacht restoration is a huge commitment. But when a project stalls, even finding a place to keep the boat can become a major hurdle. That was the situation facing the owner of a Sea Cracker 33 on the Isle of Wight. After being turned away by multiple local yards. Where managers were hesitant to take on high-risk project vessels that might end up abandoned. He found himself running out of options.

The turning point came when an inspection revealed extensive rot throughout the interior woodwork. Alongside an overwhelming list of structural and mechanical repairs. Realising the time, labour, and expense required to make her seaworthy far outweighed her value. The owner made the practical decision to cut his losses.

Not Fit to Sail

Transporting a boat off the island, however, requires careful planning. Because the Sea Cracker 33 wasn’t in a fit state to be moved by water. A sea tow was out of the question. Our only option was to send our transport truck across the Solent via the Wightlink ferry. While ferry logistics naturally added to the overall cost of the job. It was the only safe, guaranteed way to get the hull off the island.

Our driver made the crossing, and the yard team on the Isle of Wight did a fantastic job lifting and loading the 33-foot hull onto our rig. Despite the hard choice to step away from the restoration. The owner was relieved to finally see her loaded up and off his hands.

Good Salvage

Back at our recycling facility, the teardown yielded a great outcome for marine salvage. We managed to recover a set of high-quality self-tailing winches in excellent condition. They sold almost immediately and are likely already installed on another boat, keeping valuable hardware in service.

Whether your vessel is on the mainland or across the water on the Isle of Wight, Boatbreakers provides complete transport, salvage, and disposal services. Contact our team today to get a quote for your boat removal.
