Australian RIB Removed from Wimborne

The Boatbreakers team headed to a property in Wimborne for what seemed like a straightforward job. Collecting an old, (but heavy) Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). However, as is often the case in marine salvage, the reality presented an interesting challenge. The RIB, a robust Australian model featuring a weighty inboard engine, was sitting on a trailer that was simply not roadworthy.

To ensure a safe and legal journey back to our facility, we couldn’t risk towing the dilapidated trailer. Our plan quickly shifted to an on-site transfer. With the property owner’s permission, the first step was to carefully unload the RIB from its unstable resting place. This boat was far from light, but our team excels at awkward recoveries and has the specialised experience to handle substantial marine assets. The boat was stored on a gravel drive which mean we weren’t risk scraping a patio or driveway.

Cutting into Pieces

Using a precise combination of winching and careful manoeuvring, we successfully pulled the large RIB up onto one of our own road-safe trailers. With the boat secured, the next task was eliminating the redundant trailer. We brought out our cutting gear and efficiently cut the old trailer into manageable pieces. These sections of scrap metal were then loaded neatly onto the top of the secured RIB, maximising our transport space and leaving the site clean.

This RIB headed to the dismantling yard. The inboard engine is a prime candidate for salvage, where it will be stripped down and its valuable components sold for spares to keep other similar boats running. Similarly, the central console has been carefully removed and documented, ready to be listed for sale, offering a cost-effective replacement for another boat owner. This successful, safe recovery demonstrates our Boatbreakers team’s expertise in handling even the trickiest boat removals.
