Boatbreakers vs Ants! Cutting Up an Abandoned Teal 20 Near Milton Keynes
More Gardening Than Boat breaking: Cutting Up an Abandoned Teal 20 Near Milton Keynes
Most boat removals involve dealing with fiberglass, trailers, and the occasional tight squeeze. Occasionally, however, a job throws a completely unexpected obstacle your way. Recently, the Boatbreakers team headed out to farmland near Milton Keynes to dismantle an abandoned Teal 20. Instead of just breaking down a boat, our crew found themselves knee-deep in a full-scale landscaping project.
A Teal 20 Taken Over by Nature
The Teal 20 had sat abandoned on the farmland for years, giving Mother Nature plenty of time to claim it. By the time we arrived, the boat was almost entirely full of bushes, rich soil, and heavy plant debris.
Worse still, a full-sized tree had taken root right inside the hull. Its thick roots had completely intertwined themselves throughout the boat’s interior, anchoring the vessel to the earth in the most stubborn way possible. As if battling a tree wasn’t enough, we also uncovered a massive ant’s nest nestled deep inside the vegetation. Unsurprisingly, the local residents did not take kindly to our crew disturbing their home!
A Sweaty Day in the Summer Sun
Working under the blazing summer sun, the team had to swap standard ship-breaking tools for garden shears and saws just to clear the organic chaos before we could even touch the hull. Between wrestling the tree roots, clearing cubic yards of soil, and dodging angry ants, we joked that we had never done so much gardening while chopping up a boat.
Fortunately, persistence pays off. Slowly but surely, we cut back the overgrowth, unpicked the tangled interior, and dismantled the GRP shell piece by piece.
Ultimately, we got the job done. By the end of a long, exhausting day in the heat, all that remained on the farmland was a metal trailer and the boat’s old engine, which a local scrap metal collector hauled away. Whether a boat is tucked away in a yard, sinking on a mooring, or entirely swallowed by a forest, Boatbreakers is ready to tackle it, even if it requires a green thumb.
