Abandoned Project Boat Removal

Abandoned boat projects are a tale as old as time in the marine industry. Someone spots a bargain on eBay, falls in love with a dream, and envisions sailing off into the sunset. That was exactly the plan for one ambitious buyer in Gosport, who bought a worn-down project yacht with grand dreams of restoring her for weekend trips across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

Unfortunately, reality quickly set in. Restoring a boat takes serious time, specialised skills, and a healthy budget. Once the new owners realised the sheer scale of the work, and the money required to make her seaworthy, their enthusiasm evaporated. Shortly after, the owners disappeared entirely, leaving the vessel sitting high and dry on the hard standing.

Lost Revenue for Yard

That left the marina team in a tough spot. Not only was the vessel abandoned, but it was also taking up valuable yard space that could otherwise generate revenue. Rather than letting it sit and deteriorate further, the yard footed the bill to bring in the Boatbreakers team for a swift, professional removal and recycling job.

Efficiency was key to freeing up the bay. The marina’s experienced yard team stepped in to lower the mast safely before lifting the hull directly from the hard standing onto the back of our specialised transport lorry. From there, we hauled the yacht away to our facility for environmentally responsible dismantling and recycling. Ensuring as much material as possible was salvaged.

Now, the boatyard has reclaimed a prime spot on the hard standing, ready to rent out to a paying customer. It is a win for the yard, a win for local storage capacity, and another successful job in the books for Boatbreakers.
