Colvic UFO 27 Lands in the Scrapyard from Chatham

Colvic UFO 27 Lands in the Scrapyard
An old Colvic UFO 27 landed in the boat scrapyard after being collected from a yard in Chatham. The yacht had been stored in the yard for a number of years and her owner was stuck paying costly storage bills. With the boat needing a long list of attention and having been on the market for some time, it was time to scrap. Her elderly owner was realistically never going to use the boat again. She was paying north of £500 a month to store the boat.
Our boat breaking team had initially been contacted in January to quote on the removal. But it wasn’t until early June that her owner finally decided to scrap. In that time she had wracked up another £3,000 worth of storage debts. We were as relieved as her when it came to finally helping her scrap the Colvic UFO 27.
Tiller Removed
The team visited the boat in Chatham and stripped off a number of the items on board. One of these included the tiller. Which unlike the rest of the boat was in perfect condition. It had been protected under a cover and the wood still had the varnished finish.
That night we put the tiller online for sale and within an hour it had sold. When the guy who bought the tiller picked it up he explained that he also had a Colvic UFO 27. His tiller needed replacing and he decided that day to try eBay. Where he found our post just minutes after publishing. We love little stories like this as having the exact part people need is a rare occurrence.
Moisture and Mould
Sadly the moisture and mould in the boat had ruined most her interior. Her engine was also seized solid which meant it went for metal recycling rather than re-use. One of the team was looking for some internal wood to recycle in another project.
There were some slight delays to collecting the boat as the yard’s crane had some issues. But thankfully the yard team were extremely helpful and didn’t charge the owner any extra fees.
If you have an old boat sat in a marina or yard that’s costing the earth then get in contact. Just fill in the contact form and lets see if we can save you some money.

It's always a shame to see boats that are left abandoned and therefore destined for the chop. With most boats that we dispose of at Boatbreakers it's usually a case of they were used extensively once but over the last few years the costs and effort needed to keep these boats going has been too much for the owners.
