Sabre 27 Yacht Collected from Southampton

Last week an old Sabre 27 was collected for disposal from Kemps Quay in Southampton. She was once the family’s pride and joy but in recent years had fallen into a state of disrepair. We believe there had been some efforts recently to try and tidy her up. But realistically she was way too far gone.

Her spray hood was ripped, headlining was down, engine was seized. All internal cushions were either mouldy or not there. She had clearly had a lot of water in her that had been pumped out which always helps rot the internal wood. Her tiller snapped at the lightest touch and her external wood features were all dry and cracked.

Suffered from Neglect

Sadly it was a Sabre 27 that had suffered from neglect. On top of that the family would have been paying to store her for all these years. So to finally see her go would save them a significant amount each month. We are sure that the marina will be happy to see her go. It can often become a worry for any marina if it seems a boat might be left with them. It would often fall on the yard to deal with the boat themselves which comes out of their budget.

The Sabre 27 was lifted out by the marina and had her mast dropped ready for collection. There wasn’t much left on board that was worth trying to save for re-use. The best we managed to salvage were some winches and a length of 8mm chain. To deal with the mast we just chopped it up and sent it for metal recycling. There was a time where we saved all the old masts we had in but we ended up with so many that ultimately people never asked for. Leaving us with a yard full of masts.

We would usually extract an engine if it was in good working order. Or even if it was seized but good for spares. This particular engine was none of the above and was only good for scrap metal.
