Snapdragon 747 Boat Disposal in Essex

The Only Way Is Essex For a Snapdragon 747
The only way was Essex for the collection team at the beginning of May. We were tasked with collecting a Snapdragon 747 from a boat club near Southend-on-Sea. The team were contact by the owner at the beginning of the year to line up the disposal. However as the club only have tw0 lifting days a year we had to wait until there was a crane on site to be able to get her.
Her owner wanted to make sure that his boat would be included in the lift schedule. This meant she would be out of the water with her mast down. Ready for our Hiab to come along the following day and load her. As the Snapdragon 747 is a bilge keel yacht it sat nicely on the back of our truck.
Packed in Tightly
At this time of the year most boats would have been lifted in to the water ready for the summer season. So as the Snapdragon 747 was coming out it meant there was plenty of room for us to manoeuvre. It can often be tricky to get boats away from smaller clubs as they pack them in so tightly to utilise the space.
Over the years we have scrapped a number of Snapdragons. They were originally built in the 1960s by Thames Marine. They remain a popular little yacht. We’re not entirely sure why the owner wanted to part company with her. But it can sometimes be down to personal reasons we’re not privy to. It can often be the case that an owner might want to get out of boating so their family don’t get left with a problem.
Re-home or Recycle
If you have an old boat like the Snapdragon 747 then get in contact. We might be able to help you re-home her. This Lonely Boats service costs just £100. Or if you fill in the scrap contact form our team can work out the best price for us to scrap the boat.

At Boatbreakers we always like the change of scenery of chopping up a boat on site as they usually mean visiting an interesting place where you wouldn't expect a boat to be. Often it will be a garden and we'll hear stories of how the owner has always planned to finish the project and go sailing but one thing led to another until we arrived with a disc cutter.

Seeing an old wooden boat scrapped is always a sad sight, even for us at Boatbreakers. But sometimes the problems with them and the costs far outweigh the value, so if nobody wants her it's time to be scrapped.
