Garden Boat Removal: Dismantling an Anderson 22 in Lymington
Reclaiming the Garden: A Sensitive Clearance in Lymington
At Boatbreakers, our work often involves more than just logistics; it requires empathy and respect. Recently, our team was called to a home in Lymington to assist with a particularly poignant project. The removal of an Anderson 22 yacht that had been sitting in a private garden for some time.
A Difficult Departure
The boat had belonged to a local sailor who had sadly passed away. For his wife, the yacht had become a bittersweet and “sad reminder” of an unfinished project that would now never see the water. With the goal of reclaiming her garden space and finding a sense of closure. She reached out to us to handle the removal.
Overcoming the Logistics
Every collection presents its own set of puzzles. While we typically use a HIAB truck for heavy lifts, this property was located down a narrow, winding Lymington lane. The restricted access meant our large cranes simply couldn’t reach the boat.
To solve this, we pivoted to an on-site dismantling strategy:
-
The Team: We dispatched a specialised crew equipped with heavy-duty cutting gear.
-
The Process: Over the course of a single morning, the team carefully chopped the GRP hull down into manageable sections.
-
The Cleanup: Each piece was hand-carried to a smaller support vehicle, ensuring the garden remained tidy and the narrow lane stayed clear for neighbours.
A Clean Slate
By lunchtime, the Anderson 22 was gone. What remained was a clear, open garden and a very relieved customer. While it’s always tough to see a vessel like the Anderson 22 end this way. We were proud to provide a professional, discreet service that helped a family move forward.
The pieces were transported back to our base for responsible recycling. Ensuring that even in its final state, the vessel was handled with care.
