Our Boat Recycling team were tasked with removing an old Dockrell 22 Yacht from Calshot Activity Centre. Over the years we have removed a number of boats from the centre. Their car park is surrounded by a boat park and it’s always been fairly simple to arrange a collection. Some yards will have access problems or boats in the way but we’ve never had an issue at Calshot. The centre is home to a ski slope, climbing walls and a velodrome.
As the crow flies the centre is a couple of miles away form us in Gosport. However due to it being the other side of the Southampton water it can be an hour’s journey just to get there.
This Dockrell 22 was up for boat recycling as the owner hadn’t used in a while. She had fallen into a state of disrepair and without a road ready trailer she couldn’t be moved. Boats of this size just don’t seem to sell like they used to. And the owner definitely didn’t want to leave her abandoned.
Lift Away the Yacht
Our plan was an easy one for collection. Send our Hiab to lift away the yacht leaving the trailer. We then listed the trailer for sale and someone took her on at a bargain. Hopefully the trailer will now be used by another active boat owner. The mast and other metal fitting were sliced up and sent into the recycling pile.
From the initial contact to when the Dockrell 22 was collected was just under a week. This is always a big factor in why people choose to scrap instead of sell. As there is no long drawn out process or any time wasters. The activity centre will also be relieved that there isn’t an abandoned boat sitting in their car park.
