Wayfarer Dinghy Disposal in Shaftesbury

Wayfarer Disposal in Dorset
The Boatbreakers team were on the road to Dorset to remove an old Wayfarer dinghy. She had been stored on a trailer outside of the owners home for a number of years. They had now come to the realisation that she was never going to be sailed again.
When our team arrived on site the owner even said the last time she was sailed it had sunk. We thought that this was pretty strange as usually little dinghies like this have plenty of buoyancy. So there must have been something not right about the boat.
Full of Water
Our plan was always to cut the front of the boat off. This was to make sure it fit nicely into our truck. However, as we made the cuts it became clear what the boat’s problem was. This Wayfarer was completely full of water. No wonder she was so heavy even trying to move her around. It would also explain her sinking as she must have taken on water somewhere and flooded the areas which are supposed to be filled with air. We quickly sliced the front of the dinghy away and the water rushed out. The team also made some cuts around the hull to drain other areas.
Whilst the water continued to drain we made good use of the time by drinking cups of tea. Her owner was as amazed as us on just how much water was inside her.
Eventually we had her empty and the the team loaded the sections of boat into the truck. The Wayfarer’s owner wanted to retain the launching trolley and the mast. Her husband had a plan for both so we were happy to leave them behind. There was a second mast which was completely bent. For this one we snipped it up into pieces and loaded with the boat.
Corners of the Country
After about half an hour we were all loaded up and ready to go. We wished the owners well and set off back to the boat disposal yard. Our team always enjoy these smaller collection jobs as more often than not the people we meet are really nice. Plus we get to go to little corners of the country that you might not otherwise ever visit.
If you have an old boat in the garden that needs to be removed then get in contact. Just fill in our contact form and our team will do the rest.
