Garden Rescue: Retrieving a Fishing Boat From Birmingham

Fishing Boat in a Birmingham Garden
The Boatbreakers collection team recently tackled a slightly unusual recovery job right in the heart of south Birmingham. Extracting a small fishing boat sitting awkwardly in a residential garden. The challenge wasn’t the size of the vessel itself, but its soft, grassy landing spot. Which made simply towing it out impossible. Plus the old trailer which wasn’t safe to use on the road.
Our initial assessment confirmed that getting the boat, still mounted on its trailer, onto the solid surface of the driveway required careful planning. To prevent the trailer from sinking further into the lawn, the crew quickly assembled heavy-duty steel ramps. These provided the necessary support and angle to transition the boat and trailer safely off the turf. With meticulous control, the team slowly winched and towed the entire unit up the ramps, bringing it safely onto the driveway. This stage required coordination to ensure no damage was done to the surrounding garden or property. We always like to leave no damage or disruption wherever possible.
Successful Recovery
Once on stable ground, the next step was loading the entire setup boat, trailer, and all onto one of our own flatbed recovery trailers designed for transport. After securing the fishing boat firmly for transit, the team made the final journey back to our dedicated boat scrapyard. Here, the vessel began its journey through the recycling process. The owner was understandably delighted, expressing great relief at having their front garden back, free from its fiberglass resident. Another successful recovery, demonstrating that no location is too tricky for the Boatbreakers!
