Final Journey of a Homebuilt Corribee 21
Corribee 21 Removal from a Local Driveway
Dealing with a deceased estate is never easy. Often, large items like boats become significant hurdles for families trying to clear a property. We were recently contacted to assist with a Corribee 21, a classic small cruiser. It had been lovingly homebuilt by its late owner. Unfortunately, without the owner’s passion to maintain her, the vessel had sat dormant in the driveway for years, and the family needed the space back urgently. In truth the boat was beyond economic repair.
Upon inspection, it was clear the hull had reached the end of its life. Making recycling the most responsible option. However, the project wasn’t without value. The primary logistical challenge was the trailer. After years of static exposure to the elements, the running gear was unsafe for the road. Our team arrived equipped to perform an on-site “pit stop”. Swapping out the wheels and checking the bearings to ensure a safe transport.
Engine to be Saved
The silver lining of this removal was the discovery of a Yanmar 1GM10 inboard engine. These single-cylinder diesel workhorses are renowned for their reliability. While the fiberglass hull was destined for disposal, we identified that the Yanmar was in excellent condition. We arranged to carefully extract the engine to be serviced and resold. Preventing good machinery from going to waste and helping to offset the disposal costs.
With the trailer made roadworthy and the boat hitched up, we towed the Corribee 21 away. Leaving the family with a clear driveway and one less worry during a difficult time.
